A brief history of NWR KARBONIA
NWR KARBONIA was established in 1999 under the name of KARBONIA PL Sp. z o.o. in the little town of Kaczyce in Upper Silesia, near the Czech border. Its main activities are the exploration of underground coal and coal bed methane resources, the mining and sale of minerals, methane production and sales, development and engineering.
In 2000, the Company obtained a license for the exploration and extraction of methane from coal bearing strata and in 2001 it obtained a license for the distribution and sale of electricity. In 2002, the Company purchased land and buildings on the former “Morcinek” site and more than a year later, in October 2003, was granted a mining license for coal exploration in the “Morcinek 1” mining district.
In 2008 NWR KARBONIA obtained two licences: to mine coal and extract the accompanying methane from the “Dębieńsko 1” deposit area, and for the exploration of coal, coal bed methane and natural gas deposits in the “Zebrzydowice 1” mining district. In the same year, the Company opened an office in the town of Czerwionka-Leszczyny, near the former “Dębieńsko” mine, and in the following year of 2009 NWR KARBONIA opened an office in Katowice.
In 2010, work began on a Detailed Mine Feasibility Study in order to prepare the way for the construction of a new mine at Dębieńsko. In February 2011, the Company changed its legal form to a joint stock company (S.A.) and is now in the process of acquiring land and infrastructure from Kompania Węglowa S.A. and Spółka Restrukturyzacji Kopalń S.A.
